The sunshine of Friday morning merely started peeping through the leaves on the vast campus of natural beauty of Jahangirnagar University Campus. The dewdrops were yet to be vaporized, the streets on the campus were yet to be noisy, and the conscious peoples were yet to go home after morning walk. At such moment, a group of school and college students started gathering at Jahangirnagar University School and College premises. Before late, JU school and college premises turned into a congregation of young learners.
The curiosity of the crowd knew no bounds as they were eagerly waiting for opening of a Math Olympiad exam. The three-day long Math Olympiad was organized by Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC) titled ‘6th JUSC National Math Olympiad 2019’ with the slogan ‘Bhabna jadi ganit hoy, ganit niye kiser bhay!’ as part of their scheduled program on October 18-20. This one was the 6th edition of the mega event of JU Science Club which has been organising this event every year since 2014 along with different types of social and science-based events round the year.
The test was taken in two shifts on October 18. The first one was started at 9.30 am and continued till 10.30 am and the second one continued from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. Out of the total 50 marks, 15 marks were allocated for Multiple Choice Question, 5 marks for Intelligence Quotient test, 10 marks for short answer and 10 marks for the higher aptitude test. The atmosphere of the exam venue was mesmerizing. Around 5,000 school and college-level students from across the country took part in the Olympiad. In total, around 20,000 people turned up including students, guardians, teachers, and organisers. The helpdesk and surroundings of the exam venue were choked up with the peoples, in one hand. The serenity was prevailing in the exam halls, on the other hand. Biting pen, itching head, a cool sound of turning over the pages by the students were expressing the beauty of the event out and out.
Meanwhile, the chief advisor of Jahangirnagar University Science Club Professor Dr. Khabir Uddin inaugurated the event by releasing colorful balloons where other advisors, former and current members were present.
The evaluation of answer scripts was done by the enthusiastic 200 members of the club by the afternoon of the test day and the result sheet was also prepared overnight.
A scientific movie show and an aerial space observation through the telescope were held on the following day October 19 in association with the authorities of the National Museum of Science and Technology.
