JU students besiege admin building
Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) blocked the administration building on Tuesday demanding a judicial inquiry against JU VC over the allegations of corruption and unplanned development in the mega projects on the campus.
As
part of the scheduled protest programs of the demonstrators under the banner of
'Jahangirnagar against Corruption' went to the administration buildings around
7.30 pm and blockaded the both new and old administration building. The blockade continued until 4.30 pm and ,consequently,
total administrative works were stopped.
Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad JU unit
convener Shakil Uzzaman said, ‘We have raised three point demands considering
welfare of the university and our demands are logical. The university authority
did not pay heed to us.’
]
Jahangirnagar University Cultural Alliance President Ashikur Rahman
vowed to continue the blockade programs more two days if their demands do not
meet.
Contacted JU VC Professor Farzana Islam said, ‘I do not know about
their fresh announcement of two more days of blockade program. I could not work
on my administration office but I did some works on my home office.’
‘We are facing some troubles to continue the regular administrative
works due to the blockade. We will take action observing the situations’, she
added.
Mentionable,
the demands of the demonstrators were to relocate the proposed halls adjacent
to Rabindranath Tagore Hall, to review the masterplan on the basis of
discussions with all the stakeholders of the university, and judicial inquiry
of the allegations of corruption. Jahangirnagar
Cultural Alliance President Ashikur Rahman had earlier announced the blockade program
last August 23 to protest these irregularities.
